Typical Sentence Pattern (A)

The word “Ba” ( 把 ) is very useful in Chinese and has no equivalent in English. In case there are two objects behind a verb, this word “Ba” is used to stress one of the objects.

1. Pass me the vinegar, please.

请qǐng把bǎ醋cù递dì给gěi我wǒ。

2. Pass the salt to me.

把bǎ盐yán递dì给gěi我wǒ。

3. Give me your passports, please.

请qǐng把bǎ你nǐ-们mén-的de护hù-照zhào给gěi我wǒ。

4. Would you send this note to Miss Wang?

你nǐ能néng把bǎ这zhè-个gè条tiáo-子zǐ给gěi王wáng小xiǎo-姐jiě吗má？

5. May I give you the key?

我wǒ可kě-以yǐ把bǎ钥yào-匙chí给gěi你nǐ吗ma？
